I think UT would consider the ACC (ESPN holds all the rights of the ACC) but they would need some partners to help bridge the gap between the coast and Texas. The problem is that there really aren't any attractive schools to combine with UT. I don't think Tech, KU and Mizzou plus UT would cut down on travel enough to make UT fit in ACC. KU and Mizzou fit the ACC profile academically and bring a decent amount of TV sets but they are so far away from the coast.

I think the key is if the SEC stops at 14 or goes all the way to 16. A&M plus Mizzou would be nice additions but the SEC would really need two schools in the East to balance things out. If the SEC goes to 16, I wonder if the Big 10 gets involved.

Guardly optimistic is a great way to put it. Past few years we start in mid-season form and finished in early season form. If we are in early season form and will get better, things are OK.

I was ok with todays showing. I know we all wanted the win. I was proud of the much fewer penalties. The things that need improvement can and I expect will be improved. I am guardedly optimistic this year. Here's to looking forward to next weekend.

I agree that #RunWithThePack is too long for quick updates, but it is still a great tag for other uses and should be kept alive. That said, #astAte is not specific to athletics as you mentioned and therefore has a lot of noise to it. #ArkSt is nice, but only a few people use it and I'm not sure it's the first thing that comes to mind when posting an update. I propose a 3rd option. #RedWolves. I know it's a bit longer, taking up 10 characters, but it's shorter than #RunWithThePack and it deals more directly with athletics specifically and is more memorable when posting a quick update.

Edit: Just realized that #IUEast uses the #RedWolves tag too, so that may not work either. I also like #Howl but again too much confusion with other uses.

If Texas did want to go independent, it would interesting to see how that worked out. Do they push A&M to SEC to make A&M look like the bad guy and therefore maybe reduce political pressure to stay w/ A&M. Or do they leave first.

Also, if UT leaves it will be very interesting to see what the Big 12 does. If they leave first, I think the conference stays together for at least a short period (add TCU and a couple other schools and they still would have decent conference). They'd get UT exit fees and still have nice NCAA credits from basketball tournament. Of course, other conferences would be looking trying to grab some very nice schools. I could see A&M and Mizzou to SEC. OU, OSU, Tech and KU might be go Pac-10. That would only leave ISU, KSU and Baylor (of course KU and KSU could also go to Big East).

I'll predict that the Big 12 stays together. They may expand in 2016 when TV deal is up if they don't like 10 team set-up.

I'm not sure I believe USU rumor. I don't see Big East adding anybody until they are sure that Big 12 isn't falling apart. They have shot at Mizzou and KU. Those two would be better than Air Force. With TCU, they shouldn't have too many worries about BCS status.

NMSU and USU only had a 1 year break when USU was an independent back in 2001. Otherwise they have played each other since 1983 from what I could find in archives. May not have been consecutive years, but that is a pretty long history of games played against each other.

You should also consider teams like TXST and UTSA have a very nice rivalry outside of football. You would be an idiot to believe this is not going to just roll over onto the football field. Keep propping up the belt, you all need it.

Your reading comprehension is the fail here.

1. You are reading things that simply do not exist in the piece. Up in the early part of the piece I say. "one of the elements of a rivalry is you have to play each other", do you need help understanding a big word like that?

2. Please quote the portion that makes your assertion that the piece lays out a caliber of play argument. It doesn't exist that is your own failing in reading into it something that isn't there.

3. WAC fans protest too much, may be you should analyze that. The article is simply about one element of rivalry building and plainly states such. Other elements are mentioned such as a history of big wins and losses. Really bizarre how freaked WAC fans have been about this.

This article is crap. The value of a rivalry has nothing to do with how many times in a row it has been played but how many times over all and how much the competition with a particular school is a part of the fabric of your own fanhood. Before the 4 WAC teams agree dot move to the MWC, the article still would have been about the same as the current membership of the WAC had not been together for even 10 years yet. Many the WAC teams shared conferences in the past however, and have been playing each other since before Eisenhower was president. Due to changing conference affiliation a break was taken here and there, but it does nothing to diminish a rivalry. You could have written this same article in 2009 and nobody would have bought that these numbers meant the Sunbelt was better than the WAC. The Sunbelt may be better in 2012, but it is not the results of having more rivalries with teams that just started playing D1 football. Your hypothesis = FAIL.

Matt Stolz is a true asset! Over the course of the football season I listen to a large number of radio personalities via Sirius from all over the country. Matt Stolz is on par with everyone of them. Every time my four year old hears his voice on the radio he gets excited because he thinks we are going to a Red wolves game even if it's just an ad. It will be neat to have Sean Tuohy doing the game too.

Who allows a rivalry to go unplayed? SEC adopted permanent schedules to preserve them. Big XII didn't and the OU- Nebraska series became an after thought.

What bias is present other than your bias of disliking the numbers?

The D-G is putting all their sports marbles in UA with high school second. They don't sell many papers in the NW part of the state so losing our fans isn't a huge hit but if UALR, UCA and UAPB and the Division II schools fans quit it will cost them some money. People who just like local sports have little reason to buy now as well.
